Mariska Hargitay, star of Law and Order, takes her sexual assault job on television to her real life. In 2002, Mariska started a foundation, The Joyful Heart Foundation, to help the victims of sexual assault “heal their minds, body and spirits and reclaim their lives.” Mariska started getting concerned about the issue after the enormous amount of emails she received while doing the show from women and girls who had been victims of sexual assault. Hearing these women’s voices, she decided to take action and make a difference. She first started by studying the subject and becoming a crisis counselor. Mariska, then, started the Joyful Heart Foundation. The Joyful Heart Foundation works to help women heal in many different ways by offering retreats. “The goal of Joyful Heart is to let the light, and the life, back in–to banish the darkness and let the healing begin.” Mariska says. Mariska has also started a line of tee shirts to raise money and awareness for the foundation. To show our support in what Mariska is doing, Serendipity is now selling her tee shirts.
I would just like to say that Mariska Hargitay is a wonderful and a caring person and she tottaly rocks as Olivia Benson in Law & Order SVU now i wanna grow up and become a detective for sex crimes.Keep the great ceries coming Mariska and you Rock.
